OQM for churches and Christian organisations
Live your shared calling, strengthen people and develop collaboration. With a Christian questionnaire and support that respects your organisation’s identity.
Illustrative AI-generated scene; not a client reference.Keep the shared calling alive in everyday work
People contribute with conviction. Yet unclear responsibilities, established habits and unspoken expectations can hold collaboration back. More effort alone does not resolve these conditions.
OQM opens a shared view of how your work functions. Christian identity remains part of the picture: gifts, faith, culture and service have their own place alongside leadership, structures and teams.
One calling. Different realities.
Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox or free church: your calling, your people and their everyday collaboration matter. Together we clarify which organisational unit and questionnaire version fit your context.
Congregations & local churches
Help people find their place, not simply take on another task: discover gifts, share responsibility and shape church life together.
Church networks & associations
Provide shared direction and strengthen local responsibility. Help your network support its churches and become a community that learns together.
Christian schools & education
Live Christian identity in the school day and strengthen your staff community. The focus is adult leadership and staff teams, their collaboration and responsibilities.
Christian ministries & mission
Connect your shared calling with people and professional quality. Help staff, volunteers and distributed teams organise their service together.
When the calling is clear, but daily work takes its toll
Commitment needs a workable framework
Staff and volunteers have different amounts of time available. Those who hold everything together need clear responsibilities and reliable support, not appreciation alone.
A mission statement is not yet a lived culture
How does your Christian calling show up in decisions, relationships and service? OQM brings your self-understanding and everyday experience into the same conversation.
Change needs shared ownership
Different generations, roles and spiritual traditions can complement each other. That needs honest feedback and a next step people understand together.
Eight characteristics. A shared picture.
OQM 80 considers leadership, gifts, faith, structures, culture, teams, service and relationships together. The profile opens a conversation about the conditions supporting your calling and where change could begin.
- Empowering leadership
- Gift-oriented contribution
- Passionate life of faith
- Effective structuresMinimum factor
- Internalised values & culture
- Holistic teams
- Need-oriented service
- Loving relationships
An invented example, not a client reference or an assessment of your organisation. The bars explain the minimum-factor principle only; they are not benchmark or percentage values.
Which area needs attention now?
Empowering leadership
Develop people, provide direction and share responsibility meaningfully.
Who could take responsibility if leaders did not have to make every decision themselves?
Gift-oriented contribution
Match gifts with responsibilities and make induction and development possible.
Which task fits a person’s gifts, and which continues simply out of habit?
Passionate life of faith
Recognise faith as a source of strength and direction in everyday life and a shared calling.
How does our shared spiritual calling connect with the everyday experience of our work?
Effective structures
Arrange responsibilities, resources and communication to serve the calling.
Which decision or handover process would support the team rather than hold it back?
Internalised values & culture
Recognise Christian identity in decisions, community and living traditions.
Where can people experience our values in action rather than only in a mission statement?
Holistic teams
Consider people’s personal, social and spiritual needs alongside their work.
What does our team need, beyond a completed work plan, to remain a supportive community?
Need-oriented service
Bring practical love of neighbour and professional quality together in service.
Whom does our work serve, and do we listen closely enough to what those people need?
Loving relationships
Encourage reliability, acceptance and an honest, reconciling approach to conflict.
Can someone raise a difficult issue without losing belonging or appreciation?
When a small team carries almost everything
Illustrative scenario, not a client case

- Everyday reality
- An imaginary organisation has committed people, yet newcomers struggle to find their place and decisions remain with a few individuals.
- One possible change
- The team clarifies one area of responsibility, identifies suitable gifts and agrees a supported handover rather than simply producing a task list.
- Review together
- After an agreed period, leaders and participants ask whether responsibility has genuinely transferred, what has become easier and where support is still needed.
From a profile to a workable next step
Not another programme imposed from outside. A development process your leaders and teams can own.
The organic principlesClarify the calling and scope
Which unit should be considered? Who experiences its collaboration? We discuss the Christian questionnaire version, participation, voluntariness, privacy and the boundaries of reporting.
Make experience visible
The survey focuses on conditions people actually experience. Personal answers must not become an assessment of an individual’s performance or faith.
Understand the profile together
Leaders and participants consider strengths, differences and the minimum factor. They choose a manageable priority instead of trying to change everything at once.
Make changes and look again
Agree responsibilities, next steps and feedback. A later review helps establish what has changed and what deserves attention next.
Questions before taking the first step
Which organisations belong in this area?
Local churches and congregations, church networks and associations, Christian schools and education providers, and ministries and mission organisations. With social-service providers or teams with different worldviews, we carefully clarify whether the explicitly Christian questions are appropriate.
Is this only for independent or free churches?
No. We address Christian organisations across denominations, including Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox and free-church contexts. Before starting, we clarify terminology, working practices and questionnaire fit rather than assuming an identical application for everyone.
Are these the same questions as in the business version?
No. The Christian OQM 80 version contains 80 questions across eight characteristics and explicitly addresses gifts, faith, spiritual culture and service. The business version uses different terminology and questions. The choice is clarified before a survey.
Does OQM judge individual people’s faith?
Its purpose is organisational development through dialogue, not a ranking of personal devotion. The questionnaire includes personal faith statements, so voluntary participation, confidentiality and appropriate reporting must be agreed first. OQM does not replace pastoral care, safeguarding or responses to abuse and acute conflict.
Is OQM an NCD product?
No. OQM has historical roots in Natural Church Development but is an independent offering today. We do not present a current partnership or imply that the questionnaires or products are identical.
Does it guarantee more members or particular results?
No. OQM helps organisations consider conditions for collaboration and develop improvements together. Change depends on the context and implementation. Membership growth is not a guaranteed outcome of an analysis.
Can the survey be used in English or Spanish?
This website explains the approach in three languages. The current Christian questionnaire underlying this area is German. Before commissioning, we clarify which approved language version is available and suitable for your organisation.
Understand the roots. Work with today’s context.
OQM has historical roots in Natural Church Development (NCD). Today it is an independent offering with its own materials and support. This area is based on the current German OQM 80 question collection for Christian organisations, confirmed on 1 October 2026. Stephan Wesely’s dissertation (2011) documents the historical development and dialogue-based process.
